Mr. Edward W. Harvey, 88, of 915 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, PA died at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, April 13, 2011, in the Waynesboro Hospital. Born May 14, 1922 in Chester County, PA, he was the son of the late J. Luis and Edith (Wickersham) Harvey. He lived his early life in Chester County. Ed was married to Eileen B. (Boteler) Harvey, on May 29, 1964 in Adelphia, MD. He led a life distinguished by public service. He worked at the National Institutes of Health as a Virologist and was involved in groundbreaking studies on cancer research with an emphasis on leukemia. He was a 50 year member of the Everett Masonic Lodge and was past High Priest of the Bedford Chapter of the Royal Arch. He was also very active at Otterbein Church, Waynesboro, where he loved teaching Sunday school. He volunteered for years as an ambulance attendant with his local fire department. Ed loved his family, adored children, was a great gardener, and enjoyed square dancing and traveling on weekends with his wife. He was also a loving grandfather and uncle, adored by all. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Betty Lou and Gerry; two step-sons, Clifford and Franklin; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Futty; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David; and one brother, Harry Harvey. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 17, 2011, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastors John Hoffman and John Mullen, officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, April 21, 2011, in Unionville Cemetery, Chester County, PA.
